FORT FAMILY SPOTLIGHT
Welcome to a new addition to our bulletin: Church Family Spotlight! We had such a great and warm response to our Seasons of Thanksgiving highlights that we thought a weekly spotlight of families and individuals in our Fort Family Church would be a great way to stay connected. Every week we will be highlighting two families or individuals on how they have been changed during these past months, any highlights or events that have impacted them and what prayers they are asking for. This will help our Fort Family Church keep in touch during this time when we all can't gather together. Over the next few weeks, we may be reaching out to see if you and or your family are interested in participating. We are trying to contact everyone, but if you haven't received a call from us with in the next few weeks, and you would like to participate, please email or phone the church office. |

DARREN & CARLA BARTEL
Is there anything that has changed for you during Covid? "Carla’s job as a teacher has changed with COVID. Students have been out of school for almost 6 months. Some are facing learning deficits, while others are facing family pressures due to COVID. Pray for wisdom and patience, and for the ability to show compassion and caring for all students and their families." How have you been spending your time in this season? "During this season, we have been enjoying spending time together doing yard work and house projects. We have also enjoyed some family time with visits from Carla’s mom and Darren’s sister." Any highlights for you this season? "One highlight during this season was spending a weekend in Vancouver for our anniversary. We enjoyed biking and walking and spending time together. Another highlight was getting quality time with family." Is there a passage or truth about God that you found helpful and relied upon? "Our verse that we chose for our wedding has been true even for this season: Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and he will make your paths straight.” " How can the church family pray for you? "Pray that we would be lights for Christ in our work and in our families. Pray for opportunities to connect and have fellowship with other believers." ~ Darren & Carla

THE MA FAMILYEdward, Darlene, Trevor and Gavin Is there anything that has changed for you during Covid? "Our older son Gavin came home early from his studies at UVIC and finished the year online. He is now taking a gap year given the pandemic and working in landscaping. Our younger son Trevor finished his school year online and did gymnastics training week by Zoom until returning to the gym in June. Edward has been in the office since July and I have been working from home since March. Quite the adjustment but nice to be at home with the family, more sleep and no commute." How have you been spending your time in this season? "We have had a lot of family time together, walks with our dog exploring new trails and painted the entire inside of our house. Summer vacation was low key with local family and some time at SunPeaks. It’s a new experience attending church from our living room couch! We’ve set up a cousin's Zoom chat to share our challenges during this time and laugh together." Any highlights for you this season? "I think the value and importance of time together with others - your family, friends and church family. During the pandemic, it’s become very clear how much we all need social interaction." Is there a passage or truth about God that you found helpful and relied upon? Hebrews 10:25 - Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. This meaning of this verse has become so real in this time when we can’t socialize together and can now see the support this gives us all. How can the church family pray for you? Continued health and well-being for seniors in our family (Auntie Mary, age 82, Auntie Mildred, age 92 recovering from a stroke and living in a care home now) Our cousin’s wife who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and has started chemo treatments. Health and safety for our family ~ Edward & Darlene |
