Title: How Long Lord?

Passage:  Psalm 13

Synopsis: On Sunday I am going to speak about Psalm 13.  ‘How Long Lord?’.  From my own personal experience and from what I have heard from many over the last couple of years it seems people are going through a ‘dark night of the soul’ or spiritual wastelands.  We will talk about how do we handle it when God seems distant, when Bible is dry, when prayers bounce off the ceiling, when doubts assail and we think thoughts and face temptations we never thought we would.  Why do these trials or times of struggle seem to go on forever?  When we go through these spiritually cold times it impacts our emotions and if we are people who live by our feelings we are in big trouble.  No matter what we feel we need to stand on truth that God has not forsaken us.  Never doubt in the darkness what we learnt in the light.  David called out to God with the same passion that he questioned God earlier.  David recognized both the presence of God and his enemies, and we must do the same.  When we are at the end of ourselves, we are finally at place we can experience the presence and power of God as never before.  David makes a choice to trust and rejoice before any circumstances ever changed.  We can do the same as we know, whether God seems close or afar, his love for us is unchanging.  I will end with a special prayer for those in spiritual wastelands.

Ephesians: Family Week 1

BIG IDEA:  God wants to rescue everyone through Jesus.

GOD STORY:  Ephesians 1:7-12
In this series, Paul’s letter to the Ephesians gives us a look at how much God loves us and what he wants us to do with our lives.  We get to see the blessings He has for us as we live lives that follow Christ.

DISCUSSION:
1)    Have you ever been rescued? Have you ever rescued anyone else? What was it like?
2)    Paul says we have been ‘set free’. What does that mean? Set free from what?
3)    The book of Ephesians says God will bring all things in Heaven and on Earth together under one ruler. Who is that ruler?

MEMORY VERSE:  We have been set free because of what Christ has done. Because he bled and died, our sins have been forgiven.   Ephesians 1:7
