FLEFC is all about people. People who have poured a lot of heart and soul into living life together through activities such as celebration services, children's clubs, youth events, music, worship and fellowship times. Besides a concern for the immediate church family and the local community, FLEFC has always been very active in reaching out to the less fortunate in other parts of the world.
From the very beginning, there have been folks who saw the need of a church gathering in Fort Langley and then acted on the vision God gave them.
In 1972 Norm and 'Nita Handy, members of the Langley Evangelical Free Church, moved to Fort Langley with the dream of starting a sister church in the village of Fort Langley. They bought a home with a large basement which served as the first meeting place of the church. Other families from the Fort Langley area joined the fledgling gathering. In 1973 the Handy home was too small to accommodate the group so the Fort Langley Community Centre was rented each week.
This small group of believers recognized that the ministry of this church was only possible by God's faithfulness and so they appropriately named the church Faith Evangelical Free Church. During that year, Reverend Stanley Nelson was called to be the first pastor. Under his leadership, the congregation flourished and the community hall could no longer accommodate the group. Feeling lead by God, the church board was able to purchase property through a loan from one of the church members and from the bank, which was subdivided, traded and eventually the existing property was acquired.
In 1980 the present building was complete and under the direction of the second pastor, Reverend Bill Meier, the church continued to grow.
During that time, the church name was changed to more identify with the community to Fort Langley Evangelical Free Church.
During the leadership of Pastor Ken Ratcliffe it became evident that more room was needed. The congregation banded together to raise the funds to make some structural additions to the facility. In 2008 renovations and the addition of a gym were completed giving the church many improvements and room to include many in-house and community events.
Through the years God has blessed this little church in Fort Langley and through it others here and around the world have been encouraged.
